Ethiopia, Russia sign MoU to strengthen health cooperation

The Ethiopian Ministry of Health and the Russian Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing Monitoring Service have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The signing took place on the sidelines of the first-ever Russia-Africa Emergency Response Teams Exercise and Seminar Program, an agreement aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries on health emergencies.
Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba signed on behalf of Ethiopia, while Anna Popova, Head of the Russian Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing Monitoring Service, signed the MoU on behalf of her country. The MoU focuses on improving the rapid response to health and hygiene emergencies, especially during epidemics or health disasters.
During the signing ceremony, Dr. Mekdes Daba stressed the importance of international cooperation in health. She said that working together allows countries to share knowledge and resources, which is crucial for effectively managing health emergencies.
Anna Popova emphasized the importance of this agreement, explaining that it will help both countries better prepare for health emergencies and protect the safety of their citizens. The cooperation includes exchanging information, training, and sharing best practices to enhance each country’s capacity to respond to health threats.
This agreement is a significant step in advancing the relationship between Ethiopia and Russia in the health sector. It aims to enable both countries to respond quickly and effectively when faced with health emergencies and ultimately improve public health for their populations.
At the signing ceremony, the Russian government provided a mobile laboratory worth over 110 million birr, complete with all the necessary equipment
