Sidama Public Health Institute is a legally established regional public health institution mandated to conduct research on priority public health and nutrition issues, support public health emergency management, strengthen quality laboratory services, and improve health data systems for evidence-based policy and practice.

Public Health Emergency Management
We identify, prepare for, and respond to public health threats through surveillance, coordination, risk communication, emergency operations, and recovery support
Research
We conduct priority research on public health and nutrition problems and translate findings into practical recommendations for policy, programs, and public awareness
Laboratory
We strengthen laboratory quality systems, referral diagnostics, and technical support services that improve surveillance and public health response
Data Analytics and Evidence
We build stronger systems for data governance, repositories, analytics, disease intelligence, and evidence translation for decision-makers

Today, the Sidama Public Health Institute (SPHI) hosted a research workshop focused on strengthening evidence-based health interventions across the region. In his opening remarks, SPHI Director General Dr. Damene Debalke emphasized that scientific research and data-driven evidence are vital for driving progress and improving healthcare performance.

The intensive Advanced Grant Writing training organized by the Sidama Public Health Institute (SPHI) in collaboration with the EpiGen Ethiopia Project has officially and successfully concluded, marking a massive milestone for regional health research capacity.
This collaborative initiative successfully empowered over 35 dedicated health researchers from SPHI, the Sidama Regional Health Bureau, and Hawassa University to confidently compete for and secure international funding.
